A Busy Family Life

Super Parent

We've all met the type of parent who seem to be Super Mom and Dad. They work full time, volunteer at the school and coach the kids' soccer games.  Most of us wonder how they manage.  Especially when it seems that we aren't doing half of the things they are but can't find time to buy shampoo. The trick to being a super parent is to be well organized with good habits.

Learn to set achievable goals

You cannot expect to change your habits overnight.  The first thing that you need to do is to organize all of your time.  There is an old question, "how do you eat an elepant?  One bite at a time."  This holds true when it comes to running a busy family. Take one job at a time and start with the hardest job first, then you know things are only going to get better. Set a goal and plan on completing one task at a time. Once you get your house organized, you will find it easier to maintain and one less thing to drain your time.

Where to begin?

So starting with the hardest job first you can begin with the clutter in your home. Every home has clutter, yours is no different. Get rid of all the junk mail that you have lying around. Look in each room of your home and find things that don't belong in the room and get rid of them.  Enlist the help of the rest of the family and give everyone a box to fill of junk.

John and I have just had a major declutter. We started with the goal of; get rid of everything we have not touched, seen or used in the last 6 months. The house looks and 'feels' a lot better and it is liberating just like they say on the TV programmes.

Clothes and toys that are no longer fitting can be either sold at a garage sale or given to a charity. This will free up your home for things that do belong.  Go through all of the closets, one at a time, organize and declutter them.

Declutter your food

Try using up all the food in the freezer and on shelves before you go shopping again, make menus with what you have there, just top up in between time until there truly nothing left.

Do not go on a shopping trip without a list. Shopping without a list can end up being costly and a waste of time as you forget the things that you need. You are sometimes better off to order your groceries online and then pick them up at the store, to save time.

If you cook meals ahead of time you can not only prepare good meals for the family instead of resorting to fast foods, but can save both money and time. Another way you can save money is with a slow cooker. Once you get used to using the slow cooker, you will wonder how you did without it.

Get everyone to help

Another way you can save time and get organized is to divide the household chores. Even younger children can help with some of the chores. If everyone works a little, no one individual has to work a lot. Save your time to spend with your family.

Once you get your home up and running, you will wonder how you ever managed to get the house in such a state and will vow not to let it go again.
